When making one of the largest investments of your life, it’s important to take the task of finding a real estate agent very seriously. It may be easy to find enthusiastic professionals, but when they’re advising you on such a huge financial deal, you’ll want a successful expert you can completely trust. Below are 5 steps to finding the right Realtor for you!
1. Discover a real estate agent by asking for referrals.
Make sure to get referrals from family, friends, neighbors and colleagues. Referrals are the single most important way to find a real estate agent you can trust. If you’re in a new area, visit open houses to meet new agents and get to know how they work.
2. Research their work.
Once you’ve narrowed down the list, then it’s time to do a little online stalking. Check the listings they have posted on their website and make sure they have appealing photographs, detailed information about the homes and an overall clear and professional online presence.
3. Interview the expert.
You’ll need to prioritize what you think are the most important qualities in property professionals. Inquire whether they’re licensed in your state, if they are top producers at their brokerage, how many of their homes listed in the last year sold and how they’ll market your property.
4. Find out if they’re specialized.
Whether you’re looking to buy or sell a distressed property, luxury home, condominium, mobile home, farm or beach house, you’ll want to make sure you have a specialized professional. Ask how much experience they have with your particular niche and what qualifies them to get you the best deal.
5. Make a decision.
After you’ve interviewed the real estate agents you think could be the best fit, checked their references and reviewed their sample marketing plans, you’ll need to assess their credentials based on success rate and compatibility. Then you can call and give one of them the good news!
Don’t just sign a contract with the first real estate agent you meet. Take the time to do your research, conduct thorough interviews and make the right decision for your financial future.
